Here’s the thing…we know that Kentucky is all about the bourbon and that when you think about taking a bourbon trip in Georgia it probably wouldn’t be quite the same. So for those who are looking for a weekend indulgence in Georgia, grab your friends and head out on the bourbon trail.
The Georgia Bourbon Trail takes about 5.5 hours to complete, and you can start north to south or south to north, whatever is easier for you. We recommend making a weekend out of it, because A) it’s more fun that way and B) that’s a lot of bourbon tasting! Located in the beautiful town of Americus, Georgia, Thirteenth Colony Distillery is a local bourbon joint that makes handcrafted spirits in small batches. By using local ingredients, Thirteenth Colony makes some of the best bourbon in the state, adding high quality ingredients and a whole lot of Southern pride. What’s even more impressive is that Thirteenth Colony is Georgia’s first legal small batch distillery, which is so fitting that it’s first on the list. 2. Independent Distilling Company - Decatur, Georgia
Next up on the Georgia Bourbon Trial is Independent Distilling Company. Independent Distilling Co., is the type of down home Southern spot that doesn’t use all the fancy gimmicks to get you through the doors. No, the bourbon is just that good. Independent Distilling Company released its very first batch of bourbon in 2015 and hasn’t looked back since. You can take a tour of the distillery and get all the tastes in on Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoons and evenings. ASW Distillery is next up on the bourbon trail and this one is an award-winner. ASW Distillery has been winning awards for their uniquely crafted bourbon, ryes, and malt whiskeys all over the place. ASW brews by using traditional Scottish methods with one-of-a-kind Appalachian grain innovation to age in-house. If you’re looking for a guided tasting with some bottles of bourbons to take with you for later, you can take a tour on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday in the afternoon. Smack dab in Kennesaw, Georgia you’ll find the next stop on our bourbon trail—Lazy Guy Distillery. Lazy Guy pays homage to the area of Kennesaw and the strong roots it holds for the rest of the state. Guests are able to tour the distillery free of charge with no reservations required. Full cocktails are available for purchase, and they do offer micro-samples of all of the spirits that are crafted in-house. This is the type of small distillery that you will be amazed churns out so many unique types of bourbon, among so many other spirits. Ahh, it’s sad to say goodbye but we’ve come to the end of our bourbon trail. So why not leave things with a bang?! Moonrise Distillery in Clayton, Georgia is brewing up some seriously tasty bourbon. Established in 2012, Moonrise Distillery chose to set up shop in a Southern Appalachian location to pay respects to the moonshining industry that once was. Today, guests can take a tour of Moonrise Distillery Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday by appointment only.
