Trains played an important role in Georgia’s development as an economic titan. There are many options for passenger train rides in Georgia, and even today, you still see freight trains traveling through much of the Peach State. Many adorable little railroad towns lie just off our major highways that meander through the state. One such town is Rutledge, just off I-20 in Morgan County. The city’s population is only around 900, and it’s home to a darling little downtown area and a small diner that, appropriately enough, is housed in an old caboose that gives it its name.
The Caboose is about the most aptly-named restaurant you'll find. The restaurant is housed in a refurbished caboose train car right in Rutledge's little downtown area.
The restaurant has expanded some over the years, but it still retains a small and homey atmosphere. It was once just an ice cream parlor, but has now diversified into selling breakfast and lunch as well.
There are a variety of menu items here, with a focus on sandwiches and classics like hot dogs and hamburgers. The rotating specials mean you'll never get bored.
In addition to the great food, Caboose also is well-known throughout the community for hosting fundraisers and special events like Christmas movie nights.
