The kids are out of school for summer and they’re itching to play. Lucky for them, there are tons of different activities for them to get into to. A summer in Georgia just wouldn’t be right without some of these traditions. Here are 11 things you have to do in Georgia this summer!
1) Shoot the hooch
Shoot the hootch with your friends! Take a raft, canoe, paddle board, tube, or kayak and drift down the Chattahoochee River. They also have food and drinks available for purchase!
2) Hiking in the North Georgia Mountains
One of the most beautiful places in Georgia, the North Mountains, is a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts this summer!
3) Visit Savannah, GA
Savannah gets pretty crowded in the summer, and I see why! There are so many things to see and do down there, from the historical houses and museums to the fantastic shopping and dining. You can party, or have a romantic evening with your hunny. The possibilities are endless!
4) Eat a fruit bar from the King of Pops
If you've never had a fruit bar from the King of Pops you have to try one of these delectable treats! My favorite is the key lime pie!
5) Have a water balloon fight
Have a good ol' water balloon fight in your neighborhood. It's fun, practically free and a great way to relive your childhood.
6) Go on a fishing trip
We have some great fishing spots here in Georgia. From our many lakes to the Atlantic Ocean (for those deep sea fishers,) you can catch the fish of your life here in Georgia!
7) Catch fireflies on a hot summer night
Another great way to relive your childhood is to catch fireflies on a muggy summer night.
8) Go to a family BBQ
Fire up the grills and have a big family BBQ. There's no better way to get the family together again than to slap some meat on the grill!
9) Attend one of our many Georgia festivals
There are so many festivals here in Georgia-dare I say maybe over a hundred! Most of them are free or cost a small price to go. It's a great way to get outside and celebrate summer!
10) Attend a Braves game
One of the best Georgia summer traditions around is to catch a Braves game with your friends!
11) Swimming!
And of course this list wouldn't be complete without swimming on it! Check out my recent article on water parks in Georgia. There's quite a few places for kids to splash and have fun in the sun!
