Hello, Georgians. We have a tall tale for you. One that is as creepy as it gets. Some might say it’s all a rumor, just a story that has been blown out of proportion over the years. Others may swear it to be true beyond all measure. Regardless, one thing is for sure—this creepy story about the tiny town in Georgia might just be the perfect tale to tell around a campfire.
One of the greatest tall tales out of Georgia happens to involve the tiny town of Talbotton.
This small town with less than 1,000 residents today, was even smaller back in the 1800s, when it was reported that a werewolf was terrorizing the area.
Townspeople within Talbotton began reporting that a werewolf was killing off their livestock throughout the county.
Even Burt’s mother caught Burt slipping off into the forest at all hours of the night, and when confronted, Burt simply couldn’t recall where she went.
This easily became the talk of the small town, but even more-so when Burt began to grow hair in odd places and her teeth began to look more pointed.
…a creature as big as a man, walking on two legs, with a snout that appeared to be inhuman.
Although nothing ever came to fruition involving the true identity of the creature in Talbotton, this is a hotly debated topic in the area for those who had grandparents who grew up in town. However, it is rumored that if you go out into the countryside at night during a full moon, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the spirit of Emily Isabella Burt and hear the howls of wolves in the distance. After all, she is still buried in town…
