Augusta is something of an underrated city. It’s one of the largest cities in Georgia, with tons of history, a beautiful riverfront area, and lots of other attractions. Even so, it doesn’t get nearly the attention from tourists that other riverfront cities like Savannah or the North Georgia mountain towns along the Chattahoochee receive. There’s a lot to do in Augusta, and one of the most satisfying things you can do here is check out some of the city’s many excellent restaurants. One of the best is the Boll Weevil Cafe and Sweetery, an ultra-tasty spot that’s been delighting tourists and locals for decades.
The restaurant that would become the Boll Weevil Cafe opened here in 1990. The building was constructed some time prior to 1850 as a cotton warehouse. It's located not far from the riverfront, in a charming historic area.
Are you wondering about the Boll Weevil Cafe's unique name? The restaurant was at one time bordered on one side by a restaurant called the Cotton Patch and the other side by Cotton Row. It seemed fitting to name the new eatery after the beetle that feeds on cotton plants.

Inside, you'll find a tasty menu filled with Southern delights like shrimp and grits and pimento cheese-filled sandwiches.
Whatever you do, don't get too full on your meal. The Boll Weevil takes the Sweetery part of its name quite seriously. There are more than 30 desserts on the menu, meaning there's something for every taste.
