Every state, including ours, is known for haunted places, and haunted bridges are particularly popular. Whether a bridge spans a river where someone was murdered long ago or marks the site of a grisly car crash, bridges are a common theme of campfire stories designed to scare young children. One bridge in north Georgia that’s got plenty of haunted rumors swirling around it is the Stovall Mill Covered Bridge near the little town of Helen. It, in fact, is said to be one of the most haunted bridges in Georgia.
A historical marker notes the significance of the spot for visitors.
Amazingly, the bridge was constructed in 1895 and is still standing today. There was an earlier bridge in the same location that was washed away during a flood in the 1800s.
The ghosts of those killed during the flood are said to now haunt the bridge each night.

Inside, it certainly looks frightening! It's said that in the middle of the night, you can hear the sounds of babies crying and horse-drawn carriages passing over its wood planks.
Interestingly, the Stovall Mill Covered Bridge, perhaps the most haunted bridge in Georgia, is not alone for the "crying baby" stories. These wailing infant bridges are found in every state and often known as "crybaby bridges."
Another haunted bridge in Georgia with similar rumors is the Old Youngs Mill Bridge near Lagrange.
You can tell how small the Stovall Mill Covered Bridge is in this photo! At only about 33 feet long, the Stovall Mill Covered Bridge is the shortest covered bridge in Georgia.
The investigators were unable to find any conclusive evidence, but residents of the area stand firm in their belief of the bridge's haunting.
