The trip from Savannah to Atlanta is a commonly-traveled one. The cities are two of the largest in the state, and the 250-mile trip spans a good chunk of Georgia. Next time you find yourself making the journey, make time for an extra day or two to explore. There are several fun places to stop along the way on this fun road trip in Georgia. We’ve gathered up a few attractions from some of our favorite cities along the route. Depending on the amount of time you have and your interests, you may want to hit up all the stops, but you can always pick and choose what you’d like to see.
There are a couple of different paths you can take to travel from Savannah to Atlanta, or vice versa, but you can check out the route we're taking on Google Maps. The route is customizable, so add in as many stops as you'd like.
If you're heading north to Atlanta from Savannah, about an hour into your trip you'll hit the little city of Metter. The city is home to the Guido Gardens, a beautiful set of gardens open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The garden has a beautiful chapel inside, and even though it's just a few minutes from the interstate, the area feels incredibly peaceful. It's a great place for a reflective stroll or to enjoy a picnic.

Another hour or so along your route, you'll come upon Dublin. There are lots of interesting things to see here, and we recommend a quick stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument Park.

Dublin is actually where Dr. King gave his first public speech. The park is home to several pieces of art and even has an audio tour of the Civil Rights Movement's history. You can learn more from Visit Dublin.
If you'd like something a little more adrenaline-fueled, Dubin is also home to the Herrin Compound. The supermotocross track has monthly races that are always a blast.

If you ask us, Macon is one of the most underrated cities in Georgia. There's a lot to do here, but if you only have a short time, make a stop at the beautiful Amerson River Park.

The park spans 180 acres and has seven miles of trails. It boasts beautiful overlooks, great spots for a picnic, and a playground if the little ones need to let out some energy after hours in the car. Learn more from the Macon website.
Fans of music will not want to miss The Big House Museum, the home where the Allman Brothers Band was formed. The museum features a huge collection of memorabilia from the band and their friends.

Make sure you've got time if you want to stop by the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon. It's more than 43,000 square feet devoted to Georgia athletes from every imaginable field, including high school stars.
