Are you pondering, weak and weary, of where to go out to eat next? Maybe your tell-tale heart (or stomach) is craving something spectacular. To quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!” Your indecision can end right this second, because we’ve got just the place for you. Savannah is home to the only Edgar Allan Poe-themed restaurant in Georgia, and it’s got a wonderfully moody atmosphere that’s perfect for all lovers of the grim and macabre. This eerily beautiful city is known as one of the most haunted places in Georgia, so it makes perfect sense that it’d be home to Poe’s Tavern, a gastropub inspired by the master of horror himself. Check it out:
Poe's Tavern is a fairly new restaurant to Savannah, though there are several locations in other states. It's already making a splash on the Hostess City's downtown dining scene.
You'll find references to Edgar Allan Poe and literary horror throughout the restaurant. There are framed photos and prints on the wall, plus small architectural details.
Many of the dishes feature the names of Poe's works, like Rue Morgue and Black Cat. You'll find a good variety of foods here, with tacos, salads, appetizers, and a kid's menu.
However, the gourmet burgers are the star of the show and what most people come for. The half-pound delicacies are ground in-house and you have the option of a beef, chicken, or veggie patty.
Another popular option is Edgar's Nachos. These tasty chips are smothered in all manner of toppings, including Edgar's Drunken Chili, which adds the perfect bit of heat.
