Georgia sure does have a few mysteries tucked under her belt. A lot of strange and mysterious things have happened in this state that leave residents and visitors alike simply baffled. 1. UFOS Flying in Augusta, Georgia
Augusta has had a lot of weird UFO sightings throughout the years. The first was in 1948 in downtown Augusta of a "wingless mystery plane." Then in 1952, another one was seen by the Savannah River Plant by more than 100 plant workers and dignitaries attending a ceremony outdoors. They spotted a glowing green glob about one-fifth the size of a full moon, which darted about the sky for nearly two minutes. Finally in 1997 there was a 13-year-old who spotted a diamond-shaped UFO that split into two triangular crafts. None of these were every fully explained.
2. Blood Dripping Walls in Atlanta
It happened on September 8th, 1987 at 1114 Fountain Drive in Atlanta, Georgia. It was almost midnight when 77-year-old Minnie Winston stepped out of her shower and noticed blood dripping out of the bathroom tiles. The blood was also seeping from the walls and had pooled together in several rooms throughout the house. She called out for her husband Winston, and together they watched more blood pooling down the hallway and under their TV. The two called the authorities. However after an investigation, the detectives ruled out a break-in, and were ultimately baffled. The blood they found was Type O and the Winston’s blood types were both Type A. The unsolved case was believed to have been paranormal activity. Sometimes houses are known to bleed when they have a demonic or evil entity present.
3. The Poltergeist of Surrency
To most, this phenomenon is known as the Surrency Horror. A brick-throwing bogeyman terrorized a prominent family in the southeast Georgia town of Surrency in the 1800s. Chairs, shoes and clothing were thrown about the house. News of the spirit spread, attracting reporters from across Georgia. Flocks of tourists visited the home of the poor family dealing with the poltergeist to witness the phenomena for themselves.
4. The 1993 Storm of The Century
The '93 Super Storm was a large cyclonic storm that formed over the Gulf of Mexico on March 12, 1993. It was so unique in its intensity, reach, and overall size, that it left meteorologists baffled. The storm left Georgians with record cold temperatures, inches of snow, high force hurricane winds, and millions of people without power.
5. Loud Booms Over Northeast Georgia
Northeast Georgia, February 2016 – Reporting of booms so loud, they had actually shaken homes. Many residents described the noises as a loud car crash, or even an earthquake. However, the radius of the reported noises was so wide, authorities could not pinpoint an exact event or cause. The Banks County Sheriff’s Sgt reported the sources of the loud booms are still unknown today.
6. Enough Sinkholes to Call it an Epidemic
In 2014, a Georgia woman stepped out her front door and disappeared into a sinkhole. The sinkhole opened up on the front door step of Aaron Kent, an Atlanta homeowner. His wife was leaving the house for work that morning. She opened the front door, stepped outside, and fell into an 8 ft. deep, 12 ft. wide sinkhole. Other than a few cracks in the driveway, they had no warning. Kent managed to pull his wife to safety, who despite tumbling into the giant sinkhole, suffered only cuts and bruises. Kent says the sinkhole was not there the night before. How about that for a morning wake-up-call?
7. The Face of Jesus was Spotted on a Pizza Hut Billboard
In May 25, 1991, dozens of motorists claimed to see the face of Jesus shrouded in a bowl of pasta. The billboard was part of a Pizza Hut campaign, which showed a forkful of steaming spaghetti. But most motorists insisted they saw the deepset eyes, crown of thorns, and beard. Representatives from Pizza Hut had no knowledge of this image despite the adamant claims.
