When a person thinks of Georgia, they may not think of all the astonishing things that this state has to offer; such as the fact that we’re home to world renowned universities, or that we’re first in the nation for peanut production and our agriculture industry produces billions of dollars. They also may not know that the Georgia landscape is more diverse than many other states, due to our vast mountain ranges in the north and our seemingly opposite “tropical” barrier islands in the south. Well, if they didn’t know, now is their chance to find out. Here are 10 reasons why Georgia is the most underrated state:
1. We have some of the best universities in the world.
Georgia is home to some of the best schools in the world: Emory, GA Tech, UGA, Agnes Scott, GSU, and the list goes on and on! Our educational system here in Georgia easily makes us one of the best states around.
2. We cultivate huge amounts of agricultural produce for the country.
Agriculture in Georgia is a billion dollar industry. We rank first in the nation in the production of broilers (young chickens weighing less than 2lbs), peanuts, and pecans. We also rank second in the nation in the production of cotton, and third in the production of peaches and tomatoes. The country literally depends on us for their peanuts and peaches!

3. We have some of the best collegiate football teams in the country.
Georgia is the Coca-Cola headquarters of the world! This delicious drink has touched every corner of the globe and it's all thanks to a pharmacist from Atlanta, GA.
Georgia is also home to the western hemisphere's largest aquarium. It's only just been surpassed by Singapore's Marine Life Park in 2012. It features tens of thousands of animals and is considered to be one of the most interactive aquariums in the world.
St. Marys is one of the oldest cities in the country. It was founded in 1787 by the Spanish. The city is as beautiful as it is historic, and it's the gateway to the gorgeous Cumberland Island.
7. Georgia has Savannah, Atlanta, Augusta and Macon; some of the biggest and best cities in the country.
Georgia is home to some of the biggest metropolitan areas in the country. Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus and Macon are all major hubs of business and education. Savannah, Augusta, and Atlanta are also some of the oldest cities in the country. Great things come out of Georgia.
8. We have some of the best mountain ranges in the country right here in our state.
The beauty found in our North Georgia Mountains cannot be rivaled. From Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Helen, all the way to Lookout Mountain; we have some of the most magnificent landscapes right here in our state.
Georgia is so awesome that we have our own set of natural wonders that people from all over come to witness: Amicalola Falls State Park, Okefenokee Swamp, Providence Canyon, Radium Springs, Stone Mountain, Tallulah Gorge and Warm Springs.
10. Georgia's barrier islands make it seem like we have our own set of tropical islands!
On top of having a beautiful northern region, we also have an amazing southern region. We have 15 large barrier islands, and other smaller islands. Some of our islands are filled with resorts, while others are teeming with wildlife. All of them are beautiful and tropical, attracting tourists from all over the world.
