The 6 Most Terrifying Drives You Can Possibly Take In Georgia
We’re huge fans of road trips, and there are plenty of amazingly scenic drives in Georgia that make travel by car an absolute blast. With that being said, there are also quite a few roads here that are, quite frankly, terrifying (we’re looking at you, Atlanta). The destinations that you eventually reach may make these drives worth it, but they’re some of the most-hated Peach State roads out there. Check them out:

Interstate 16 may not be quite as harrowing as some of the roads on this list, but it's so boring! There isn't much to see as you drive from Savannah to Macon (or vice versa), and it will give even the most focused of drivers a bit of highway hypnosis. If you happen to be on it at rush hour, the traffic can get pretty bad, and the high speeds mean that accidents are often fatal.

Atlanta traffic is famously nightmarish, but some streets are a lot more dangerous than others. Around one-third of the traffic fatalities in Atlanta occur on just ten streets. Moreland Avenue typically tops the list. The road is narrow, heavily-trafficked, and crosses dozens of neighborhoods, all of which contribute to its high number of accidents.

Interstate 75 spans the entire state of Georgia and passes through some of the state's major cities, such as Atlanta, Macon, and Valdosta. It's one of the longest continuous six-lane freeways in the country and is actually 16 lanes at several points. Much of the state's tractor-trailer traffic is on I-75.

Interstate 285, also known as "the Perimeter," encircles the city of Atlanta and runs for about 65 miles. More than two million people use I-285 each day. At rush hour, traffic is often at a standstill here and it's not unusual to be stuck for more than an hour after an accident has occurred.

Interstate 85 is an important transportation corridor in the southeastern United States. It passes through Atlanta on its way up to Richmond, Virginia. Traffic can get pretty wild on I-85, and trying to cross lanes to reach your exit in Atlanta can be a nightmare!

Interstate 20 is another highway that goes through Atlanta that has a high number of accidents. The interstate spans the entire state from east to west and passes right through Atlanta.
