Florida’s Everglades is considered one of the world’s natural wonders. It’s a 1.5-million-acre wetland that’s home to countless plant and animal species, including some that live nowhere else in the country. You may think that the Everglades is a one-of-a-kind unique place, but we’ve got our own mini Everglades in Georgia. At only 6,500 acres, the Bond Swamp is obviously much smaller than the massive Everglades, but it’s home to similarly beautiful scenery and boasts its own unique wildlife.

The Bond Swamp National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1989. The swamp lies just a few miles outside of Macon.

Like the Everglades, the Bond Swamp has a wet, hot climate that's favorable for many plant and animal species. The diversity here is quite incredible!

Visitors can hunt, fish, and hike in this uniquely beautiful swamp.

The opportunity to hunt destructive feral hogs draws hunters from all over the state, and there are also huge bass here.
If you head out to the area, keep an eye out for gators. They are prevalent in the swamp.

While they don't typically harm humans, you certainly don't want to stumble upon one by accident and startle it into aggression!
