Uhuburg Castle In Helen, GA Is Finally Open

Castles aren’t just the stuff of fairy tales or medieval Europe – we have several castles in Georgia, too. The newest one just opened for visitors in the summer of 2023 after a lengthy construction process that took more than a decade. Uhuburg Castle in Helen, GA is an absolutely magnificent architectural triumph that’s sure to become one of the most-visited attractions in this popular tourist town. The castle is currently open for tours on weekends and will soon be hosting visitors for overnight stays. This Eagle Owl Castle is truly one of the state’s most remarkable buildings and a visit here just might make you feel like you stepped back in time a millennium or so.

The castle has 12 towers, a turret, three gatehouses, an 8-story lookout tower, and walls. It's tucked away on a 45-acre mountaintop property and looks straight out of a fairy tale.

Building Uhuburg was a massive undertaking that took over 15 years. Construction started back in 2008.

The castle's purpose is to serve as a place of philosophical enlightenment that champions Renaissance values.

There's a 1,300-foot wall in the courtyard covered in murals that represent religions and philosophies from throughout history.

The two acres of gardens are filled with beautiful statues and plants.

The builders made a concerted effort to combine bits of the local area with the idea of a classical European castle.

Many plans for the castle are still in the works, but it is currently open for tours on most weekends.

There are even occasional classes and demonstrations here of medieval era skills like falconry and swordsmanship.

This place looks so magical, and as a lover of all things Helen, GA, I can’t wait to go visit myself.
