Summer time is here, and it’s the perfect season to get into some water sports and outdoor activities! Whether your thing is going to the beach, the lake, or just throwing that annual summer BBQ, there are certain Georgia summer traditions we all have. Here are some of the best things you can do in Georgia on a hot summer day:
1) Hit the beach!
Here is a picture of a beautiful sunrise on Tybee Island--just one of the many beaches you can go in Georgia. Go on down to the Georgia coastline and visit one of the Golden Isles. You and your family are sure to have tons of fun in the sun!
2) Go on a fishing trip
Fishing is a big sport in Georgia. Catch some Bass, Trout, or Catfish then go home and fry them up country style! With so many lakes to choose from, fishing is an easy and favorite pastime of many Georgia folks.
3) Take a dip in one of our many lakes
Or...you can choose to swim in the lakes! Here is a lake somewhere in the North Georgia Mountains bordering North Carolina. There's plenty more just as beautiful as this one.
4) Go kayaking
If you're looking for a little more adventure, try this sport out for size. Kayaking in the North Georgia Mountains can be extremely fun--just make sure to pick rivers according to your expertise level (this guy is a pro!) It can be a dangerous sport!
5) Take Your baby jet skiing!
No not really! But if you've never tried jet skiing we have it right here in Georgia down on the coast. There's actually a jet ski shop right on Tybee Island!
6) Get out on a boat
You can go on down to Savannah and get on a river boat--or maybe your neighbor or friend has one at the lake!
7) Go to a waterpark
This little girl is having the time of her life! I'm not sure which water park she's at, but I know I need to go to that one! You can have just as much fun too visiting one of Georgia's water parks such as White Water or Helen's Tubing.
8) Take your kids to Centennial Park in Atlanta and let them run around in the sprinklers
If you're a little short on cash but still want to take the kids out, put on their bathing suits and let them run around the park's sprinklers for a while. I promise they'll have just as much fun as they would should you have paid for it!
9) Have a water balloon fight
Another cheap alternative is to get a bag full of balloons and fill them with water and have a good old-fashioned water balloon fight! Invite the whole neighborhood for even more fun!
10) Go to a Braves game
Going to a Braves game on a hot summer day is definitely a Georgia summer classic! Enjoy a refreshing beer (if you're 21+) and a delicious hot dog while you enjoy our favorite baseball team!
11) Eat an ice cream from King of Pops
Or an ice cream at any other popular ice cream shop in Georgia--we're pretty good at making the stuff if I do say so myself!
12) Visit a Georgia resort
Get away while still being in Georgia in one of our many resorts. Some of the more popular ones are Lanier Islands, Sea Island, Barnsley Gardens, and Chateau Elan. We also have resorts, lodges, and fancy B&Bs all throughout north and south Georgia.
13) Visit Savannah
The water fountains at Forsyth Park came to life the day this photograph was taken. As you all know, Savannah is filled with beauty and history. There's always so much to see and do that honestly, it's always a good time to visit Savannah!
14) Have a picnic in the park
There's nothing quite like a summer night in Georgia. Take advantage by having a picnic in the park one evening. The fireflies flying around and the warm summer air makes for a magical time--but make it quick or else the Georgia bugs will eat you alive!
15) Throw a family BBQ
Now is definitely the time to show off your great BBQ skills! Invite friends and family over for an afternoon of fun and food!
No matter what–make sure you go outside and enjoy the weather and spend plenty of time with your family! What have you done so far to enjoy this Georgia summer? Let’s talk about it in the comments below!
