Let’s face it; going out to eat is getting more and more expensive. You can’t just grab a burger and fries for dirt cheap and call it a day. But not every restaurant in our fair state of Georgia requires a huge salary or a savings account in order to eat there. In fact, we’ve come up with a list of incredible eats that you can savor for under $10. That’s right, you can feast on some budget bites in Georgia without breaking the bank. Take a look at our comprehensive list and prepare to be hungry:
1. Victory Sandwich Bar—340 Church Street, Decatur, GA 30030
You can literally eat two artisan sammies and a bag of chips for under $10 at this poppin' lunch spot. By artisan, I mean not your average ham and cheese. Try the Beast on Yeast, which is pot roast and horseradish creme, or the Castro; smoked pork, ham, pickle, fontina cheese, and yellow mustard. Heck, throw in some bread and butter pickles for $3 while you're at it.
2. Waffle House—Everywhere, Georgia
Yes, you heard us right. This famous Southern chain serves up some fabulous diner breakfast food like no other. Sure, there may be a bit of grease thrown in, but isn't that what you love about Waffle House at 2 a.m.? For under $10, you can get most menu items, from eggs and grits to a plate of crisp, sweet waffles.
3. Taqueria Del Sol—334 Prince Ave, Athens, GA 30601
For a quick bite on the cheap, Taqueria Del Sol is the place to go. Their mantra is keeping their menu simple and making a few things really well, rather than a bunch of things just so-so. For $10, you can load up on their delicious tacos, like the brisket, fried chicken, or veggie, all served on a soft flour tortilla.
4. The General Muir—1540 Avenue Pl. Suite B-230, Atlanta, GA 30329
Come to this Atlanta hot spot for breakfast and you will not be disappointed. Not everything on the menu is under ten bucks, but you can still mix and match and have a fabulous meal for cheap. For eggsample, (OK, sorry I had to) the fried egg sandwich, crispy pastrami, gruyere, caramelized onions and deli sauce on a bun will have you in food heaven for cheap!
5. Ronnie John's Beach Cafe—1950 Canton Rd., Suite 330, Marietta, GA 30066
OK, here's the thing about Ronnie John's Beach Cafe...you can get plates of food for under $10. PLATES. But not only that, the burritos are under $10, you can get three tacos for around $10, or just stick to a few apps for STILL under $10. Inexpensive and tasty. Can't beat that combo.
6. The Fry Guy, Atlanta, GA
This roving food truck serves up some of the BEST fries in the state. Try the Parmesan Truffle Fries for a nice flavor kick, or even the Bacon Fries if you want some meaty flavor. This little fry jaunt will keep you budgeted under $10 every time.
7. Fat Matt's Rib Shack—1811 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324
You get BBQ and blues when you visit Fat Matt's Rib Shack. For $10, you can feast on a tender, juicy rib sandwich, plus add a side of "rum" baked beans, and macaroni and cheese and slowly enter into BBQ heaven, because really, this is what heaven is all about.
8. Papouli’s Mediterranean Cafe & Market, 121 Tom Hill Sr Blvd, Macon, GA 31210
Nearly all of the items on the Papouli's menu are under $10; the Spanakopita, the soups, or even the Gyro Plate, which is topped with delicious curly fries. The best thing about Papouli's is that you know you're getting quality food, because why else would they still be around 30 years later?
9. Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand—489 Moreland Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316
Here's the thing about Delia's, I couldn't find a single thing over $10. So you could get The Hot Mess Slingers, chicken sausage, chili, cheddar cheese, and pickled jalapenos, plus a cake shake and be on point for $10. At Delia's, they source all of their ingredients locally, plus there are no preservatives or additives thrown into the mix. Win, win.
10. Masada Cafe at the United House of Prayer, 2301 W Bay St, Savannah, GA 31412
When you think of delicious Soouthern cooking, you don't quite equate that to sitting down in a church. But at Masada Cafe, you can eat delectable Southern classic lunch plate, in a community cafeteria for $10. When you hear "lunch plate", picture turkey legs, fried chicken, or smothered pork chops, plus two sides, cornbread, and rice. That's a lot of food for keeping under budget.
I don’t know about you, but my stomach is grumbling. Have you been to any of the food spots mentioned above? Let us know about your experience!
