God, family and food are some of the most important aspects of a southern life. Here in Georgia, tradition means everything to us. Some people may just not understand why, but to us it’s a no-brainer. Here are nine awesome traditions you’ll only understand if you’re from Georgia:

Storytelling is at the heart of our culture and can still be seen today in places such as The Wren's Nest. The Wren's Nest is a home museum dedicated to preserving the legacy of Joel Chandler Harris, an author who recreated the oral story the Brer Rabbit tales in print. Storytelling is still performed every Saturday at 1p.m. at The Wren's Nest.

Religion is really important to us in the south, so expect to go to church multiple times per week if you want to hang with us.

After God, family is the second most important aspect of a southern lifestyle. Big family get-togethers are a must every holiday or occasion.

This Georgia tradition started in 1890 when freshman students were ordered to ring the bell until midnight to announce the victory of a Georgia football game.

Some people who are not from Georgia may be surprised to hear someone older than them address them as ma'am or sir. Believe me, you heard right. We just strongly believe in having manners no matter who you're speaking to.

Whenever we do have a big get together (whether it's with friends or family,) food is going to be at the center of it all. Our food traditions truly unite us.

Perhaps the biggest Georgia tradition of all is the love for and preservation of our Georgia traditions. We're honest, loving and loyal to a fault!
