You don’t have to go far to find a friendly town in the Peach State – after all, we’re well known for our Southern hospitality. Small towns, in particular, seem to be full of old-fashioned good vibes. Visit a charming small town in Georgia, and you’ll be greeted with a friendly nod or a wave when you drive down the street. These little towns have it all: history, natural beauty, delightful boutique shops, and tasty restaurants. These are the kinds of places where strangers are just friends you haven’t made yet. One of our favorites is the little town of Dearing. With around 600 residents, it’s barely a blip on a state map, but it’s a delightful little spot with some great things to do.
You'll find Dearing in McDuffie County. Though it's only about half an hour outside of the major metropolitan area of Augusta, it's got a laid-back, rural feel.
Is it just me or does it seem like small towns have the best restaurants? Pea Ridge Bar-B-Que is a super-popular spot in Dearing, and with just one visit, you'll see why.
This spot has a unique menu for a Southern restaurant, with cheese curds and poutine both featured prominently. The French-Canadian owners still serve up everything with Southern hospitality, though!

One of the most charming attractions in Dearing, GA is White Hills Farm. This lavender and herb farm features teas, bath salts, and more in the Farm Shoppe.

If you're a city-dweller, one of the most fascinating parts of visiting a rural area is learning about agriculture. Those of us who live in large cities don't often come in contact with farm animals. On a visit to Dearing, you'll definitely want to check out Hillcrest Dairy.

This farm is more unusual than most - the cows here are milked by robot.
Lovers of the outdoors will want to check out McDuffie Public Fishing Area: it's not just for fishing! This 570-acre oasis has seven fishing ponds, plus campsites.
