On a quiet street in Columbus, Georgia sits a charming little house that holds tremendous history. The Pemberton House as it is known, is a small Greek revival-style cottage that was occupied by John Stith Pemberton from 1855 through 1860. Pemberton and family lived in this house on Seventh Street, which holds an important place in history for many. Why you may ask? Because Pemberton was the originator of Coca-Cola, and the historic house contains the keys to his secret concoctions and early conceptions.
The Pemberton House in Columbus, Georgia is where Dr. John Pemberton lived with his family for many years in the 1800s.
While the history remains a bit murky depending on whether or not you ask a Columbus native or an Atlanta native, one thing is for certain, Pemberton created the worldwide phenomenon that is Coca-Cola.
Many folks claim that Pemberton created Coca-Cola in his Atlanta lab, which was walking distance from the Pharmacy in which the first glass was sold for a nickel.
A few of the house features worth noting, included the apothecary shop, Coca-Cola mementos, pharmaceutical items, a soda fountain, and a few historic advertisements on display.
Over the years, the beautiful Pemberton House was restored by the Historic Columbus Georgia Foundation to the original style boasted when Pemberton himself lived here, and still maintains an important piece of history to this day.
