She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). Whether you’ve lived here all your life or are just visiting for a day, it’s easy to see that the Peach State is a pretty special place. There are such a wide array of beautiful places in Georgia. If you’re looking for metropolitan glamor, it doesn’t get much more bustling than Atlanta. Savannah has one of the most charming historic districts in the entire country. Our barrier islands like Tybee and Jekyll are perfect beach getaways, but we also have the beautiful mountains of the northeast part of the state. Here are some of our favorite places in Georgia:
Providence Canyon is considered one of the wonders of Georgia and is nicknamed the "Little Grand Canyon." It's amazing to look at these deep gorges and realize that they were primarily the result of poor agricultural practices! Most of the canyons here were greatly worsened by soil erosion from runoff.
Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia and it's such a great area regardless of what your interests are. There are tons of historical museums here, but it's also a city that's filled with natural beauty. The nightlife is great and there are plenty of concerts and restaurants to check out.
Radium Springs is also considered one of Georgia's seven natural wonders. An underground cave pumps out 70,000 gallons of water each minute that is a clear, brilliant blue. You aren't able to swim here, but it's a stunning place for a walk.
Marietta is a large suburb of Atlanta, but when you're in the adorable downtown Marietta Square, you'll feel like you're in a small town. The area is filled with restaurants and stores, plus a lovely little park.
Cumberland Island is a barrier island off Georgia's coast. It's unique in that it is home to one of the most famous wild horse populations in the eastern U.S. It's a popular spot for camping, hiking, and sight-seeing.
Gibbs Gardens is one of the best botanical gardens in Georgia. There are 220 acres filled with a variety of plants here, including trees, flowering blooms, and both native and exotic species.
Helen is a charming small town nestled in the northeast Georgia mountains. The downtown Main Street is designed like a Bavarian village. There are many German restaurants and lots of the shops sell German goods and have colorful murals. The Chattahoochee River flows right through the middle of the town, so there's plenty of natural beauty to be seen as well.
Arabia Mountain is an interesting area that's just outside of Atlanta but will make you feel like you are on another planet. The mountain is covered with granite rocks and a variety of plant life that is specially adapted to live on the mountain.
Visitors to Cloudland Canyon often remark it's the most beautiful place they've ever been. It's no wonder that this is one of the most popular state parks in Georgia.
Lookout Mountain is in the northwest corner of the state and from its peak, you can see seven states if the skies are clear!
