Did you know that the state prepared food in Georgia is grits? Neither did I. (Even though I’m well aware that there’s not other state that makes grits quite as well as Georgia.) And I’m not just talking about traditional, savory corn-based grits. I’m also talking about shrimp and grits, cheesy grits, bacon-grease grits… You name it, we love it. Now that I have the attention of your taste buds, let’s talk about some of the best places in Georgia that serve up these bad boys.
This delicious gem brings some of the most sophisticated southern cuisine around. Set in a 1920s bungalow, South City Kitchen makes not only a first-rate, comprehensive brunch, but also their famed shrimp and Red Mule grits. What is inside this flavorful dish? Poblano peppers, tasso ham, smoked tomato gravy and the smoothness of cooked corn grits.
This popular vegetarian eatery boasts some of the most delectable, healthy fare in all of Georgia. But their grits....are on another level. Not only is The Grit ironically named, but it also features both regular and cheese grits as a part of its Breakfast and Brunch menu.
This daytime cafe gets rave reviews for their grits dishes. Creamy, smooth, perfectly textured. But you can't forget about the Shrimp and Grits dish, which is their most prized plate. We're talking about stone-ground Logan Turnpike grits with shrimp and Louisiana style BBQ sauce. YUM!
The name pretty much says it all. Narobia's Grits & Gravy has been a staple in Savannah for quite some time. The Southern-style cuisine is always a fan favorite, but make sure you get there early! They are only open from morning to early afternoon for the perfect buttery smooth grits fix.
You can't really expect shoddy grits from a place that serves breakfast all day, can you? At The Flying Biscuit, their grits are so dang delectable that they call them "creamy dreamy". That's right. Order up your own creamy dreamy white cheddar grits the next time you're in town.
Not only do customers rave about the prices at Home Grown, but also about the BBQ grits, which are both rich and ravishingly tasty, doused in sweet BBQ sauce and topped with shrimp. It's a casual eatery with all the southern charm and is a must-try when you visit the city.
What's known as creative southern cuisine, Grits Cafe packs not only fabulously flavorful grits, but also delightfully repurposed. Take the Grits Martini, for example, which includes creamy grits, bacon, and shitake mushrooms all served in a fun martini glass! Or how about the Grits Fritters, Cheesy asiago grits, fried and served with a tomato, basil cream. Yummy.
Some fan favorite foods of New Orleans right in the heart of Savannah. Huey's cafe features distinctive seafood dishes and...wait for it, brunch ever dang day. Part of that brunch menu includes grits a variety of ways: regular, cheesy, Parmesan garlic, and shrimp. Yowza!
This little cafe and eatery has been around since 2008 and proudly makes award winning dishes, including their Grits Stack, which features creamy grits topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar, marinated shrimp and bacon. Everything stacked in one deep, delicious dish.
Three words: Pimento Cheese Grits. This casual spot for locally sourced Southern style breakfast features some of the best grits around. Stone ground, either with cheese or without. Regardless, the flavor still packs a powerful punch either way.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a plate of cheesy grits. Did we miss any particular spot on our list? Is there a place in Georgia that serves to-die-for grits? Leave it in the comments below!
