I don’t have to convince you guys why Georgia is a great state to live in. The beautiful trees, the quiet nature and the historical significance of our state always leaves me in awe. Having a beautiful state to live in is great and all, but we all need to be gainfully employed to enjoy it! That’s why I’ve come up with this great list of the cities in Georgia where you’ll have the greatest chance of finding that amazing career. These stats are based off of the rate of growth within a city, the cost of living and, of course, how many people are employed.
Here are the 10 best cities in Georgia to look at if you want to find a job:
1. Johns Creek, GA
Coming in as #1 on our list is Johns Creek, located in Fulton County. It's the 10th largest city in Georgia and has experienced a more than 20% increase in population between 2009 and 2011. The Johns Creek Economic Development Corporation recently launched the Johns Creek Advantage Program, which will focus on attracting businesses in the community. The median household income in this city is pretty high, (more than 100K,) and some of the major employers in this city are State Farm, Alcon, Macy's Systems and Technology.
Alpharetta is another booming city near Johns Creek. It is known as the Technology City of the South because of big employers such as Comcast, Verizon, McKesson and Lexis Nexis. Alpharetta experienced a nearly 13% growth in population between 2009 and 2011.
Dunwoody is a major business center near Atlanta, so it's no wonder that it is one of the best places to find a job! It's still a new city, only being incorporated in 2008. The city saw a 15.7% growth in population between the years of 2009 and 2011. The unemployment rate here is 6.4%.
Peachtree City seems to be one of the best cities to live in Georgia because of its high safety, education, income and happiness levels! Now it's on yet another list for being one of the best places for employment. Unemployment here is 6.6%, and some of the major employers in this city are NCR Corporation, Cooper Industries and Hoshizaki America.
Roswell is the 8th largest city in Georgia and is approximately 20 miles north of Atlanta. The median household income here is about 77K, indicative of well-paying jobs. Principal employers in this city are Kimberley-Clark, Verizon and North Fulton Hospital.
Warner Robins is a city near Macon, GA and is experiencing growth faster than other cities in its region with a 10% growth in population between 2009 and 2011. One of the biggest employers here is the Robins Air Force base (with more than 22K employees.) Other notable employers are GEICO, Houston Healthcare and Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Athens-Clarke is the 5th largest city in the state and has the nationally ranked University of Georgia, which is one of the top employers in the city. UGA's career center also helps students to procure great jobs. Athens Regional Health System and Pilgrim's are also large employers in this city.
Sandy Springs is the 6th largest city in the state and has an unemployment rate of 6.7%. The city experienced a 10% growth from 2009 to 2011. Top employers in this city are Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Northside Hospital and IBM.
Hinesville is 40 miles south of Savannah, and is beautiful since it is near the ocean and experiences moderate weather year-round. The largest employers here are Ft. Stewart, SNF, Inc. and Liberty Regional Medical Center.
Duluth, a city located in Gwinnett County, comes in last on our list. Some major employers in this city are Gwinnett Medical Center, Cisco Systems and Primerica.
