OK, well this place is pretty well known--but it just had to be on the list! It is hands-down our largest freshwater community of animals and wildlife here in Georgia, and in most of the country. You can take part in guided tours, outfitting, and kayaking as well.

One of my favorite places to see wildlife, Cumberland Island, is known for its wild horses. They also have an abundance of birds and sea life for those that are interested!

Another pretty well known place to find animals from all over the world is the Atlanta Zoo. There you can find friendly giraffes, pink flamingos and ferocious tigers!

Chehaw is a park and zoo in Albany, GA. The 700 acres of wildlife is a park dedicated to education, preservation and conversation. It is one of only two accredited zoos in the state.

This is a 2700-acre saltwater marsh is located on an abandoned military airfield in McIntosh, GA. This rich and assorted saltwater marsh is great for bird watching, as it attracts thousands of migrant birds every year.

This 4,000+ acre of wildlife refuge is located in beautiful Lakeland, GA. The Banks Lake is a natural sink, (depression where water collects and there is no visible outlet,) with an ancient geological origin. The lake is draped with blackwater marsh Cypress Trees and wildlife.

This is a zoo-like nature preserve in Savannah. Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Svannah is a great spot to take kids who are animal lovers, as the center features educational programs as well as many animals in their natural habitat.

Here is another natural refuge in Savannah that is huge! It's nearly 30,000 acres is located in both Georgia and South Carolina! If you're into bird watching, then this is the perfect refuge to catch some amazing species of birds. They also have bobcats, alligators and more!

This park and petting zoo is another great place to take the kids! Located in Cleveland, GA, this facility features kangaroos, cougars, wolves, monkeys and other exotic animals! While the kids can't pet the cougars, they can participate in hands-on exhibits with wolf-pups and kangaroos!
