For anyone looking to keep cool when the temps get hot, but also explore a bit of nature, we have the perfect place. Sure, you can always stay refreshed by spending the afternoon at this fabulous outdoor water park, however, you wouldn’t really get the nature aspect of it all. So strap on your hiking boots and make sure to wear your swimsuit! This is one hike to a swimming hole in Georgia that is not to be missed.
The Beech Bottom Trail within the Cohutta Wildlife Management Area is a hidden gem for hikers to tackle if they’re looking for some solitude along the trail.
While the entire hike is around 9 miles out-and-back, it only takes around 4.5 miles to get to the actual river, with another mile or so to get to the waterfall.
What makes this hike so interesting, however, (besides the delightful swimming hole, but we’re getting to that) is that you begin the hike on the Tennessee side and walk your way over the border into Georgia to enjoy the river.
For those who are feeling adventurous, you can make a weekend out of this excursion by setting up camp—just make sure to build your campsite at least 300-feet from the river.
Directions: If you pop in “Beech Bottom Trailhead” into your phone or GPS, then you should be directed exactly to the trailhead location and parking lot area.
