There are quite a few hotels in Georgia that hold historical significance for the state. But out of that history also comes a ghostly past. It isn’t uncommon to find haunted hotels in areas of the state like Savannah, but perhaps it wasn’t expected to happen in Americus. The Windsor Hotel in Georgia dates back to the 1800s, and boy, are there some stories that highlight many of these hallowed halls.
When you visit the town of Americus, Georgia, it’ll be hard to miss the towering Victorian hotel known as the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel.
This stunning architectural feat is impressive, to say the least, but what many visitors likely don’t know is that guests and staff have claimed it to be haunted over the years.
As the legend goes, in the early 1900s a housekeeper and her daughter were murdered by a vengeful lover after being pushed down an empty elevator shaft.
Over the years, Windsor Hotel guests and employees have reported seeing apparitions of the mother and daughter, often hearing a child’s footsteps running down an empty hallway.
Guests have also confessed to seeing the reflection of a woman in a black dress, seeing pots and pans fly off tables, and lights and radios mysteriously flicker on and off.
We guarantee this tour will be worth it—a 45-minute guided jaunt, highlighting the historic aspects of the property as well as the fascinating ghost stories.
