If you’ve ever had the feeling your hometown’s drivers must be the worst in the country, or at least the state, you could have been right. Florida historically has some pretty bad drivers (of course, we blame tourists and snowbirds). The good news is many of these cities have actually improved a lot since last year as far as their national ranking, but there’s definitely room for improvement. According to Allstate’s annual Best Drivers Report , these are the cities with the worst drivers in Florida:
1. Miami
It's probably no surprise that Miami tops this list as one of our busier cities that attracts a lot of tourism. Nonetheless, Miami has moved up 39 spaces on the national list since last year, so we can't complain. The average time between accidents is 7.8 years, and the likelihood of an accident is 28.2% higher than the national average.
2. Miramar
Drivers in this city in Broward County are 27.1% more likely to get into an accident than the national average, with an average 7.9 years between accidents. They have made modest gains since last year, but many other cities have outpaced them.
3. Hollywood
Hollywood's accident likelihood is 26.8% higher than the national average, with 7.9 years between accidents on average.
4. Tampa
Tampa has improved as well, but the accident likelihood is still 23% higher than the national average, with an average 8.1 years between accidents.
5. Hialeah
It may seem like Hialeah is somewhat high on this list, but it has made an incredible 64-place jump up in the rankings since last year, which means it would've been one of the worst cities in the country. The average is now 8.3 years between accidents.
6. Pembroke Pines
Despite having moved up 21 spots on the rankings since last year, you're still almost 17% more likely to get into an accident here as compared to the national average.
7. Orlando
Orlando is a busy city with a lot of tourists unfamiliar with the roads, so it probably comes as no surprise that it made the list. You might not have expected, though, that it has moved up 53 places on the rankings since last year. The average number of years between accidents is now 9.1 years.
8. Fort Lauderdale
Wow. Fort Lauderdale drivers should be proud. They've moved up over 50 places in the rankings since last year. They're still 9.7% more likely to get into an accident than the national average, but if they keep up the good work they'll soon be on the best drivers list!
9. St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg also moved up several spots since last year, but drivers still have a slightly higher likelihood of getting into an accident here than the national average (2.3%). Average time between accidents: 9.8 years.
10. Jacksonville
Jacksonville actually moved up 11 spaces on the ranking, to number 43 of 200. It still wasn't good enough to keep them off the list, however, and the average number of years between accidents was 10 years.
