Read up, snowbirds, we can walk you through everything from skeeters to skunk apes and have you ready for Florida by winter.
1. Jiffy feet - Dirty feet, especially the soles, presumably earned by walking barefoot through the Jiffy Mart (convenience store).
2. Cooter - Freshwater turtle from the southern or eastern US.
3. Skeeter - Mosquito.
4. Gator tail - Though most people might picture the tail of a live alligator, here it can usually be assumed the tail has been cut up and deep fried.
5. Pub sub - The best subs around, as evidenced by this awesome groom's cake.
6. Lovebugs - Nasty splats that cover your car a few months out of the year. Not really loved by anyone.
7. Conch - Can refer to a beautiful shell or a tasty treat.
8. Mullet - Though most people would think of this classic hairstyle, and some would argue it's a delicious fish, here in Florida, we know it's really both.
9. Kumquat - Adorable little citrus fruit that can be found all over the place.
10. Skunk Ape - Florida's Bigfoot.
11. Sea cow - Manatee.
12. Palmetto bug - Roach's bigger, badder, uglier cousin. Especially good at flying at your face while you try to get into your house.
13. Snowbird - Someone from a place with an actual "winter" who travels to Florida to escape it.
