When most people think of wine, they think of California, and they might not even realize that Florida could sustain vineyards. But our state is full of surprises, and this little winery hidden in a small town is a delightful one.
Welcome to Dakotah Winery, located at 14365 US-19, Chiefland, FL 32626.
The winery is the perfect destination for your next day trip, with a wonderfully rustic atmosphere.
Their vineyard is located a few miles away in Fanning Springs. It was planted in 1985 and now covers 20 acres.
Dakotah grows red and white muscadine grapes, which allows them to produce a wide variety of wines.
Here you'll find your favorite classics like Chardonnay and Cab Sav, as well as unique varieties like Blueberry and Blackberry.
The setting is so lovely, you'll want to stop and stay awhile. The deck overlooks a scenic koi pond.
The winery serves as a wildlife refuge for the wood ducks (which has become the symbol of the winery) and geese that call it home.
If you visit Dakotah Winery, you can sample all nine varieties of wine as well as their muscadine grape juice.
You can also pick out a bottle to take home and a special gift for your favorite wine-lover.
Start planning your relaxing day trip or add this stop to a weekend trip to Fanning Springs State Park. This little gem is worth finding.
