Postcards are a real lost art, a victim of modern technology, and it’s really a shame. Florida, being a popular tourist destination, had some amazing postcards from tourist spots all over the state. Here’s a look back at the past with some charming vintage Florida postcards.
1. The Land of Sunshine
Oranges, beaches, sunsets, bananas, I think, and is that the Bok Tower? This is the ultimate classic Florida postcard, and I just love it.
2. Fort Lauderdale Beach
We've always been known for our incredible beaches.
3. Oranges
Yes, we've always been famous for our delicious oranges.
4. Jacksonville
Jacksonville residents will recognize this scene!
5. Hollywood Beach
6. St. Petersburg Beach
The Aquatarium, later Shark World, was an unfortunate victim of the popularity of Disney World and the price of gas in the '70s.
7. On the way to Key West
8. St. Petersburg
I guess green benches were a part of classic St. Petersburg history. I'd love it if someone from St. Petersburg would give us some of the history.
9. St. Augustine
10. Miami, FL
This was the what the lovely Miami skyline looked like in the 1940s.
11. Hialeah Park, Miami, FL
Yes, we really have flamingos in Florida, but no, they're not everywhere.
12. St. Petersburg, FL
You can still see the beautiful and unique Banyan trees in Florida.
13. Miami Beach
14. Daytona Beach
15. Ocala
16. St. Augustine
17. Miami Beach
Look at all the beautiful people sunbathing in Miami Beach...I guess not much has changed.
18. Orlando
This is a familiar scene for anyone whose ever visited popular springs in Florida. This particular spot is now a residential area and no longer open to the public.
19. Clearwater
Amazingly, there's still an Embassy Mobile Home Park in Clearwater, FL. It would be awesome if it's the same one.
20. Weeki Wachee
They are still doing mermaid shows in Weeki Wachee more than 50 years after this photograph was taken! The state of Florida even made Weeki Wachee a state park to make sure we didn't lose this piece of history.
If anyone has any more information or stories about these places or how they’ve changed, we would love to hear about them!
