Alys Beach is probably the dreamiest town in Florida you’ve never heard of. Sitting on Scenic Highway 30A, this is the ultimate destination for a luxury getaway.
The uniform design of the town recalls the nearby planned community of Seaside, but Alys Beach's all-white color scheme shows the power of simplicity and makes its exotic architecture stand out even more.
It's easy to feel transported to another world here, in part because the whitewashed Moorish architecture is meant to resemble Antigua, Guatemala.
The buildings bring to mind the fine white sand you'll find at the town's beach, where the gorgeous emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico stretch out to the horizon.
The town is small enough that you can get pretty much anywhere on a bicycle, but there's still enough to do that you won't be bored. You can bike around town or on the trails of the town's 20-acre nature preserve.
There are a few fancy restaurants in town, but the real place to be is Charlie's donut truck, which serves up delicious homemade pastries and donuts from their bakery in Bonifay.
The town's biggest event is its annual Digital Graffiti Festival, held in May. The festival makes use of the town's white buildings to project unique artwork from artists all over the world. Other than at Christmastime, it's hard to find a town this vibrant and pretty.
Pictures can explain the magic of this town better than words, so check out this video tour below:
