Between the extreme weather and many potential dangers, it’s a wonder anyone manages to stay in Florida. We’ve come to the conclusion Florida’s residents must be some real tough cookies.
No one here has forgotten Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and we'll get through any others that come our way.

There has always been crazy weather in Florida, and yet, we all choose to stay.

Depending on where you live, alligators are common enough that people have unexpected contact with them more often than they'd probably like. Gators like this one often end up in yards and pools of unsuspecting homeowners.
Gators aren't the only frightening animals we host. Florida is home to everything form sharks to rattlesnakes. and plenty of people brave or crazy enough to get near them.

And if none of that is scary enough for you, Florida is also known to have a sinkhole problem. Sinkholes are terrifying because the ground can drop out from under your home or other structure, and you can imagine how much damage that can do.
We also routinely have notifications of flesh-eating bacteria at our beaches or brain-eating amoeba in our lakes, not to mention the beach's rip currents, plaguing our waters. All this, and yet nothing seems to keep Floridians from their beloved waters.
You have to be tough to survive our six-month summers.

And the humidity ensures it always feels even hotter than it really is, and prevents your body from effectively self-cooling.
Whether its crime or craziness (or both), reading Florida's news would have most people heading for the hills. Somehow most of us have learned to cope with all the bad news and follow the sun.
