For anyone who’s unfamiliar, Florida’s Skunk Ape is a mysterious and legendary creature that has long captured the imagination of locals and enthusiasts alike. Often referred to as the “Southern Bigfoot,” the Skunk Ape is said to inhabit the dense swamps and remote wilderness of the Sunshine State. Its distinctive odor resembles that of a skunk. That’s how this cryptid has earned its peculiar name. Throughout the years, numerous sightings and encounters have been reported, sparking both curiosity and debate among researchers and the public. And while there isn’t necessarily a map to finding this alleged cryptid, there is a place that claims to be the best chance you’ll have at seeing it: Trail Lakes Campground in Ochopee.

What many people might not know is that Ochopee, Florida, contains the official Skunk Ape Research Headquarters known as Shealy’s, which is located on the Trail Lakes Campground property.
