Sometimes Florida gets a bad rap, but lifelong residents know there’s so much more to love than there is to complain about. Here are a few of my favorite reasons to love Florida:
1. Our state parks are more picturesque.
Florida has hundreds of state, county and national parks, including some of the best in the country.
2. The same goes for our beaches.
3. We have real hidden treasure.
You don't have to win the lotto to become an instant millionaire. There's real shipwrecked treasure to be found in Florida, and there's plenty that hasn't been discovered.
4. Our landmarks are weirder.
And in case you're wondering, weirder is a good thing. Pictured here is Coral Castle in Homestead.
5. Our trees are shadier.
It must be all the moss. We have some of the oldest and loveliest trees. Pictured is Eden Gardens State Park in Northwest Florida.
6. Our food is more mouth-watering.
From fresh seafood or authentic Cuban sandwiches to the best Key lime pie you'll ever taste, Florida's cuisine is way underrated.
7. We have some outstanding architecture.
From the art deco buildings of Miami Beach to the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright's work in one place at Florida Southern College, Florida is full of awesome architecture. Florida has long attracted tourists and snowbirds, and there are plenty of impressive Victorian homes and buildings, as well.
8. Our theme parks are superior.
I'm looking at you, Disneyland.
9. Our winters are warmer.
And by that I mean they're way better than anywhere else.
10. Our small towns are more interesting.
There's Cassadaga, the Psychic Capital of the World, Tarpon Springs, a Greek community in Pinellas County, and the Amish and Mennonite community of Pinecraft in Sarasota, just to name a few.
