Here in Florida, we have some of the best beaches and parks in the country, and we’re not exactly known for our indoor activities. But sometimes our rainstorms last longer than usual, so here are a few ideas for things to do on those rainy days…or when it’s just too hot to stay outside.

Rain or shine, it's always a good time to check out the country's first and largest butterfly habitat, located in Coconut Creek.

Not many people realize how many awesome museums are spread throughout Florida. These are the perfect places to spend hours indoors that are both entertaining and educational. There are too many to name, but start with the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Villa Vizcaya in Miami, The Ringling in Sarasota, Wonderworks in Orlando, and the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville.

Shopping is the perfect rainy day activity, especially in a giant super mall like The Mall at Millenia in Orlando. You can spend hours and hours at a mall this big without stepping in the same store twice. The best part is no one can say you wasted the day, since it was rainy anyway.

Somehow I was born and raised in Florida without ever realizing we even had casinos. There are several options, but it seems like the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood would be a good place to start.

If you happen to be at Disney World when a thunderstorm strikes, herd your disappointed flock into DisneyQuest for tons of indoor fun. Be warned, though, it's scheduled to close sometime in 2016. If you're nowhere near Orlando, there's most likely an large-scale indoor arcarde near you, though it's probably not as cool.
