Something that isn’t much of a secret about me: I love pizza. All different types of pizza, really. But if I had to narrow it down, it would be New York-style pizza. Maybe it’s because both of my parents hail from The Empire State, and it’s shaped how I eat pizza and bagels for life, or maybe it’s just because New York-style pizza reigns supreme. Either way, I’m always searching for the best pizza near me, and I found a place that deserves some recognition. Pizza Salad Pointe in Davie, Florida, is in the brand-new University Pointe complex, and it features soups, appetizers, pizzas, create-your-own salads, calzones, stromboli, paninis, pasta, AND a 30-tap self-pour beer wall that allows you to get your drinks on your own time. How cool is that?! Come check out this unique pizza place in Florida with me, and prepare to get hungry.
My first impression of Pizza Salad Pointe is that it’s huge, with the self-pour wall to the right with lounge seating and the dining room to the left. The ceilings are sky-high, with unique crystal light fixtures up above.
Of course, the smell of the pizza hit me like a ton of bricks. Pizza Salad Pointe has three different styles of pizza to choose from - New York, Detroit, and Sicilian. Many of these are on display if you ever want to pop in and just grab a slice.
But before I jumped the gun on food, I wanted to try the 30-tap self-pour wall. How it works, is that you receive a black card, similar to a credit card, which will be given in exchange for driver’s license verification. This card is what you’ll use on the self-pour wall.
Each tap has two options. Once you slide in your card, it’ll verify your information and you can pour as freely as you want! You’ll be tallied by the ounce, depending on your chosen beverage. Red wine by Michael David Vineyards for instance, was $1.50 per ounce. Meanwhile, many craft beers were between $0.50-0.75 an ounce.
The good news is, too, that the higher-ups from Pizza Salad Pointe have personally curated this wall - so many of the beer vendors are locally owned and operated and have been taste-tested and approved!
I had my very own beer flight, which I poured myself from the glasses underneath the beer wall. I started off with a light pilsner, switched to a local Kolsch, then a delicious amber, and finally a local IPA.
I sat back down at my table and perused the menu. The pizza here is very versatile, especially the fact that you can create your own using fresh ingredients, many locally sourced. They even had vegan cheese, which meant vegan pizza options!
I opted for the large New York-style build-your-own. I topped my pizza with onions, spinach, and mushrooms and it was delicious. I have to say this is one of my favorite pizza crusts I’ve eaten in South Florida. And I’ve tried a lot of pizza.
Also, you can’t leave without trying the gelato, which is made fresh daily from ingredients imported from Italy! Flavors vary depending on the day, but there will be over 20 options, no matter when you go.
All in all, I would absolutely love to make this my go-to neighborhood spot. The pizza was delicious, and the self-pour beer wall meant that I never had to wait for a beverage. I could go up, pour my own, and try as many as I would like. It was a great experience from start to finish, and I will absolutely be back! Might this just be the best pizza in Davie, Florida?
