To some people, fall is about crunchy leaves and pumpkin-flavored treats. To others, it’s all about one thing: Halloween. If you’re searching for a way to make this Halloween memorable, there’s an event in Florida you need to know about.
Welcome to Spooky Empire, a fan festival that draws thousands of visitors and has taken place in Florida for 15 years. It began in South Florida but now has a permanent home in Orlando.
Spooky Empire has also branched out into other events, so the October event is now distinguished as the "Ultimate Horror Weekend." This event has become one of the largest horror conventions in the country.
Spooky Empire draws a diverse group. There are fans of horror films, television shows, books, and comics, of course. But there are also plenty of fans representing sci-fi and fantasy films that have even the slightest dark side.
There are lots of exhibits, live music and performances, and autograph/photo opportunities with celebrity guests.
Then there are rows and rows of booths with interesting collectibles, memorabilia, clothing, masks, handmade items, and other merchandise.
There is also a costume contest, film festival, Q & A's and panels with celebrities and creators, special effects demonstrations, and a tattoo festival.
Even though it's a horror-themed convention, Spooky Empire strives to be family friendly, and children are allowed at most of the happenings. (Kids 10 and under even attend for free.) There is also a Kids Zone, kids parade, and a kids costume contest.
This year, the Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend Will Take Place October 27th through the 29th at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Tickets are available online or at the door for one day or all three days of the event.
