Visit the city of Palatka for one of the best weekend trips in Florida. Located in Putnam County, Palatka is a beautiful city with lots of charm. The pleasant year-round temperatures and high precipitation make Palatka’s parks and outdoor spaces vibrant and green. The St. Johns River flows through the city, separating Palatka from East Palatka.

Park at the west end of St. Johns Avenue and walk east toward Riverfront Park while admiring the many murals along the avenue. Wander around the park to see several memorials and historical monuments. Then make your way to the Bronson-Mulholland House, a fully furnished antebellum house built in 1854. Tours are available on Saturdays; tours on any other day must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance. Take a short drive to Ravine Gardens State Park where you can walk for miles on the trails, bridges and stone pathways in this massive park.

Corky Bell’s Seafood at Gator Landing
Palatka’s most famous restaurant is Corky Bell’s Seafood at Gator Landing, located in East Palatka. At this casual restaurant you can sit outside on the huge deck overlooking the water and enjoy clam chowder, raw oysters, fried shrimp, and other seafood favorites. In the morning, stroll down St. Johns Avenue and stop by The Magnolia for coffee and a benedict.

Pack extra sightseeing and fun into your visit by booking your trip for a festival weekend. Visit the Blue Crab Festival that takes place every year on Memorial Day weekend. You might also want to visit on the first weekend of March for the well-liked Florida Azalea Festival where visitors can see a pageant, a parade, several shows, as well as shop from numerous vendors.
