Tupelos, which are a species of the Nyssa ogeche are valuable honey plants that are known for growing in the southeastern United States, but more particularly the Gulf Coast.
Tupelos help produce a light, mild-tasting honey that has a high ratio of fructose to glucose, meaning that it doesn’t crystalize.
And by rare, we mean the only place in the world that commercially produces tupelo honey!

The harvest usually takes place from April through May, as bees harvest the nectar from blossoms of tupelo trees that thrive along the swamps and river.
It’s been said that tupelo honey has been called one of the sweetest kinds of honey on earth, which makes it perfect to use on fruit, in desserts, or spread out over fresh biscuits.
Anyone who wants to enjoy a true celebration of this honey can visit Wewahitchka, Florida for the annual Tupelo Honey Festival in May.
But you can probably head over to the panhandle throughout the year and find a few reserves of this sweet treat year-round.
