When you think of your favorite breakfast place, it’s not likely that a gas station will come to mind. But from my experience living in South Florida, gas stations will surprise you, especially regarding culinary delights. Take Lawhon’s Grocery & Meat in Fort Myers as the perfect example. This full-service grocery, butcher shop, and gas station serves up what some have declared as the best biscuits and gravy they’ve ever had.

Normally, most people sidle up to a gas station market for the obvious. But they rarely visit for the home-cooked meals and freshly prepared deli sandwiches.
But that’s what you’ll find at Lawhon’s Grocery & Meat in Fort Myers - open since 1976 and serving the freshest produce, meats, and prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.
Richard Lawton and his daughter Laurine Belanger shared in the dream together, and when Richard retired, Laurine and her husband Larry bought the store to continue on as a beloved destination in the community.
Walking inside, you’ll be surprised to see a full-on grocery store! With fresh produce, an impressive meat selection, and tons of home necessities, you can shop for what you need as you fuel up the car.
And don’t even get us started on the fresh-prepared foods six days a week. Breakfast is available daily until a certain time, and patrons can choose from items like biscuits and gravy, scrambled egg sandwiches, fried chicken on a biscuit, and a French toast meal, to name a few.
Lunch and dinner are equally impressive, with many options running from a full rib meal to cheeseburgers, egg salad sandwiches, Cuban sandwiches, and a hot fried chicken and sides bar.
There are even a few items within the store that are Lawhon’s-specific. Try the barbecue sauce and chicken dipping sauce for an extra special and customized treat.
So the next time you’re looking for a little-known destination in Florida to explore while you refuel, make sure to swing by the ever-versatile Lawhon’s Grocery & Meat.
