We all love our mild Florida winters and never having to shovel our walkways or worry about slipping on ice, but there’s just something about snow that makes Christmastime a little more magical. If you ever wondered what it was like to slide down a snowy hillside or go walking in a winter wonderland, this unique event will make your family’s holiday season extra special.
Christmas at Gaylord Palms is an annual event at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee. Every year around Christmastime, the large resort transforms into a spectacular winter wonderland, with acres of festive displays and millions of twinkling Christmas lights. This year, it runs from November 21, 2017 to January 7, 2018.
The multifaceted celebration features many events and activities, but the star of the show is ICE!, a walk-through journey to the North Pole made of more than two million pounds of ice sculptures, hand-carved by artisans.
The interactive displays include two-story ice slides, a beautiful ice nativity scene, and a live carving zone where you can watch the artists at work.
Other events include a dazzling light show in the resort's famous atrium, centered around the breathtaking six-story Christmas tree in the Emerald Plaza.
If you've always wanted to experience sledding down a snow-covered hill, you have to try snow tubing. This exciting eight-lane snow slide is fun for the whole family. (Little ones can ride with an adult.)
This jaw-dropping 25-minute Broadway-style show will get anyone in the Christmas spirit. It features dancing and acrobatics performed by the talented members of Cirque Dreams. The shows are free and held on the Emerald Bay Plaza Stage in the St. Augustine Atrium of the Gaylord Palms Resort. The shows take place Sunday through Friday at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 1:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
Mrs. Claus will be on site singing carols and reading your favorite holiday classics in a 30-minute show. Of course, you can't forget her husband's favorite snack, some of her famous Christmas cookies and milk. (This show runs through December 25th.)
The resort will also host a Christmas Tree Walk, live concerts, a snow throw, a Build-A-Bear workshop, and opportunities for photos with Santa. Some of the events are free and some have their own individual cost. Visitors can save money with a Play & Save Pass and a Florida residents discount on ICE! tickets.
