For many people, popsicles are a nostalgic reminder of a simpler time. Bu for this specialty shop that started in St. Augustine, popsicles are the future.
If you've ever visited St. Augustine (or live in one of a handful of other cities), you might have spotted this interesting little shop that specializes in a tasty treat: popsicles.
The delicious frozen treats at The Hyppo might look like the popsicles you're used to, but chances are they are like nothing you've ever tasted. These gourmet treats combine unique and sometimes unusual combinations of fresh fruits, herbs and other tasty ingredients.
Hyppo pops are made locally in Florida and use all fresh ingredients with no added colors or preservatives. There are more than 30 varieties at every location, and the flavors are constantly changing.
There are relatively normal flavors like Banilla Vanana (aka Vanilla Banana), but there are also many daring flavor combinations you rarely see outside of gourmet restaurants, like Blackberry Goat Cheese, Honeydew Basil, or Cucumber Lemon Mint.
For the boring folks out there, there are flavors like Watermelon or Straight Strawberry, but then there's also Mango Mojito, Ginger Plum, or Elvis (Peanut Butter, Banana and Honey), for the adventurous.
The Hyppo was founded in St. Augustine in 2010 and took off with locals and tourists alike, especially in Florida's hot summers. There are now nine locations around Florida, with shops in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Gainesville.
You might have passed by one of these shops in the past and thought popsicles sounded boring or like something for kids only. I totally hear you, but next time, stop in and try one of the dozens of flavors. You will be instantly hooked!
Have you ever been to The Hyppo? What’s your favorite restaurant or shop you can only find in Florida?
