The Historic Saloon In Florida Has Had Quite The Famous Clientele Over The Years

You might just see it as a regular old saloon that offers cold beer and respite from the Key West sun, but this particular place in Florida is so much more. This iconic Key West bar has quite the history within the state, not just because it’s been around for nearly forever, but because the clientele that has come through these doors are some of the biggest names in entertainment history.
Key West has gained quite the reputation throughout the past few decades as being the tropical paradise within the U.S. that many notable names chose to escape to.
And while you may have thought that these literary giants were heading to paradise to scribble out their next masterpiece, many were going for some sun, fun, and a much-needed visit to Captain Tony’s Saloon.
Not only is this saloon a piece of living history, but it also became the favorite watering hole for notable names such as Ernest Hemingway, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, and Jimmy Buffet to name a few.
What was originally built as an icehouse that doubled as a morgue in 1851 eventually because a place to stop in for an ice cold beverage and cheers to the literary giants who have shared those same stools.
The iconic bar was named after the late Captain Tony, a maritime legend that was once a known-gambler, fishing boat captain, and even the Mayor of Key West.
