One of the greatest ways Floridians can remember and honor the history of their state is by spending time in the preserved parks. Florida has quite a few different parks within the state, especially the type of park that makes you feel like you stepped into a fairy tale. However, there is one park in Florida that deserves a visit — especially once you see the history pouring out from behind the gates.
Take a trip back in time for a slice of history that makes Florida the state that it is today.
Dade Battlefield Historic State Park in Bushnell, Florida is a place where visitors can learn about the longest and most expensive Indian war in the history of the United States.
The purpose of the park is to commemorate the exact site where Dade’s Battle of 1835 took place — an occasion that marked an important moment in the history of Florida.
After a dispute within the U.S. government over whether or not Seminoles has the right to occupy Florida land, the Seminoles ambushed more than 100 soldiers marching with Major Francis L. Dade.
The Visitor Center is especially wonderful to visit as it provides a small museum with artifacts, exhibits and so much more regarding the Florida Seminole wars.
The address for Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is 7200 Co. Rd. 603, Bushnell, FL 33513. The hours are from Sunday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To find out more information about the park, make sure to visit the website.
