There’s something to be said for the healing power of nature. Whether you’re stressed out about work or something is weighing on you that’s difficult to share with others, you can always find comfort or at least a temporary escape in the beauty and tranquility of nature. This state park in Southwest Florida has been providing a relaxing getaway for nature-lovers for nearly 80 years.
Hillsborough River State Park covers nearly 3,000 acres of wild Florida landscape and features over seven miles of scenic trails.
The park was founded in 1938 as one of the first state parks in Florida, and this history can be seen in some of the Civilian Conservation Corps structures.
The park is also home to a replica of a Second Seminole War-era fort. Fort Foster can only be explored by taking one of the tours, available only at certain times during weekends.
Hillsborough River State Park is located at 15402 US-301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
Ranger-led tours of Fort Foster take place on the first and third Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. and the first and third Sunday of each month at 11 a.m. and cost $2 per person.
