Halloween is finally here, and hopefully you’re prepared with lots of candy and spooky decorations. In the spirit of the season, we’ve collected a list of hotels and B&Bs in Florida that are rumored to have their own ghostly residents. We can’t tell you if you will experience anything strange at these places, but if you’re interested in the paranormal, you can always book a room and see for yourself.
1. Artist House, Key West
This unique Victorian home was once home to one of the most notorious scary legends in the country: Robert the Doll, who was the real-life inspiration for the Chucky doll horror movies. Don't worry, though. Robert now stays in Key West's Martello Gallery Museum.
2. The Daffodale Estate, Monticello
This eclectic inn is just one of many that claim to be haunted in Monticello, the "most haunted town in the South." If the Daffodale is booked, guests can also check out the Avera-Clarke House or the John Denham House. The latter has been named one of the top haunted hotels in the country.
3. Casa Monica Resort & Spa, St. Augustine
St. Augustine is a popular ghost tour town, and Casa Monica has its fair share of rumored paranormal residents, including a man roaming the hotel dressed in '20s era clothing.
4. Cassadaga Hotel, Cassadaga
Casadaga is called the "Psychic Capital of the World," because it has a large number of resident psychics and spiritualists. The Cassadaga Hotel is proudly haunted by "friendly spirits." Guests are encouraged to bring cameras and try to capture evidence.
5. The Historic Peninsula Inn & Spa, Gulfport
This Gulfport inn has served as a military hospital, boarding house, and hotel since being built at the turn of the 20th century. The resident ghost is said to be a guest from the '50s, and has a phantom cat who roams the inn as well.
6. Florida House Inn, Fernandina Beach
This Fernandina Beach bed and breakfast built in 1857 is said to be Florida’s oldest operating hotel, and reports of a sad looking man and a woman who get into bed with guests have been made.
7. Colony Hotel, Delray Beach
Many guests compare this 1920s hotel to a brightly colored Floridian version of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining, so it's no surprise that it has a few ghost stories. The most famous one involves a guest who refused to pay his bill shooting the owners. Supposedly some guests have heard gunshots and witnessed shadowy figures.
8. Coombs House Inn, Apalachicola
The story goes that this beautiful B&B was built in 1905, but nearly destroyed in a fire six years later. The original owners were devastated and died soon after. It is rumored that they haunt the inn, and some visitors experience fiery dreams or claim to smell smoke.
