The Old Jailhouse in Sanford is a delightfully charming restaurant that has a history dating back to the 1800s.
The building in which the restaurant operates was once part of the city’s original downtown commercial district. It was once a blacksmith and wagon shop, a feed and stable store, as well as the Seminole County Jail from 1914 to 1959.
But here’s the most surprising part - when we say you can actually dine behind bars, we’re not being ironic. There are still actual jail cell bars throughout the building and you can sit at a table inside the cell!
The menu from this restaurant is whimsical and fun, from the Jailhouse Fries with herbed goat cheese, parmesan, and truffle oil to the Big House Burger featuring eight ounces of 100% Angus beef.
