Back in 1959, a family-owned hot dog shop burst onto the scene in Miami - and the city hasn’t been the same since.
As the story goes, Robert “Bob” Arbetter was busy chopping the onions and cooking the dogs, while Flaminia Arbetter would take the city bus to the shop with a pot of her famous homemade chili.
To this day, the hot dogs from Arbetter’s are still smothered in that same Italian chili, which is practically like gold to anyone who’s ever tried it.
Today, the menu at Arbetter’s remains true to many years ago - custom-made pork and beef hot dogs, grilled all-beef dogs, corn dogs, fries, tots, and onion rings.
For many, Arbetter’s has become an institution, keeping food simple and keeping the recipes the same so that you can always rely on the same satisfying meal every time.
Even if you can't make it all the way down to Miami, there is an Arbetter’s Hot Dogs in Cocoa Beach that offers a bigger menu of shakes, malts, hamburgers, and cheesesteaks, that is just as rewarding.
But nothing beats visiting the original, grabbing a seat outside, and enjoying the sounds and smells of a retro restaurant that is still as coveted as ever.
