The Bird Gardens is a non-profit organization that rescues and finds good homes for abused and abandoned parrots. If you've never had a personal encounter with a parrot, you will be shocked by how intelligent and complex they are.
Step into this beautiful sanctuary, and you can see how much thought has been put into the birds' living spaces. Their large, open aviaries are surrounded by a tropical oasis filled with native plants.
This isn't your average walk in the park with some casual birdwatching. Here, you'll be transported to another world, surrounded by the calls of hundreds of these spectacular birds, including some rare and even endangered species.
A tour of The Bird Gardens consists of two hours of walking several miles of trails, viewing and learning about more than 300 birds from all over the world.
Guests may even have the opportunity to hold and interact with beautiful macaws if weather permits. You can also bring unsalted nuts (no peanuts) to feed the birds.
There's no charge for this incredible experience, but donations are greatly appreciated. Tours are given by appointment only, on Tuesdays through Sundays, 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please call 813-841-1911 to schedule a tour.
