9 Ways Floridians Are Awesome At Overcoming Adversity
In case you didn’t know, or perhaps you forgot, Floridians are tough. Truly, some of the toughest people around. The thing is, we’ve been through it. All of it. From hurricanes to fires, and those darn “Florida Man” headlines—we’ve seen a thing or two around here. Which is why, we know, we can handle anything thrown our way. Here are 9 ways Floridians are awesome at overcoming adversity.

This is not something we take lightly in Florida. Hurricanes can be as disastrous as they come—just take a look at the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew back in 1992. But, despite the catastrophic levels of destruction the hurricane caused, we bounced back, stronger than ever.

Here’s the thing, tourism helps boost the economy and allow people from out-of-state to see the beauty that is Florida. But when the beaches are overcrowded and you can barely get to ride a ride in Disney World, things can get a bit frustrating. But, this too shall pass.

Unfortunately, the sea level is rising in Florida. Being surrounded by water on nearly all sides means that things can get quite hairy with time. In fact, according to sealevelrise.org, the sea level around Virginia Key has risen 8 inches since 1950 and has since accelerated. But, we’ve prevailed thus far, we’ll do it again. House-boats, anyone?

Spring break can sometimes wreak havoc on our small seaside communities. Between the alcohol-fueled parties, the pollution, and the loud music, sing break can be one hell of a nuisance. Yet, we still prevail year-after-year, and buckle down to get through it all.

Everyone in the country jokes about these Florida man memes, but the truth of the matter is, they can often be embarrassing for the rest of the state. Despite the fact that everyone is laughing at how ridiculous they’ve chalked our state up to being, we’re laughing all the way to the beach and back.

It was just a few years ago that bath salts were alarmingly popular among younger kids and an incident occurred that people thought was leading to the zombie apocalypse. The Miami cannibal attack really freaked people out, but yet, we overcame it, and kept on trucking.

If you’ve lived in Florida in a highly populated area then you know just how insane traffic can be. The truth is, if we can buckle down and handle the fact that nearly 1,000 people move to our state every day, making traffic worse and worse, then we likely can handle anything. Maybe this is why Mojitos are so popular.

While winters in Florida are absolutely heavenly, the summers can be quite different. The heat and humidity in Florida can sometimes make things unbearable. Just try going outside for the first time after showering and doing your hair and see what happens. But, we deal, because that’s the price you pay for paradise.

Roaches, Palmetto Bugs—whatever you call them, it doesn’t change the fact these things are gargantuan, especially in Florida. Since roaches enjoy hot weather just like humans, it’s no wonder there are so many in Florida. Yet, if we can coexist with these gigantic insects, then we can probably handle anything, right?
