Winter is the most underrated time of year here in the First State. The parks and beaches are quieter, there’s hardly any traffic, and most of the time, it’s not even all that cold out! Enjoy a quiet, peaceful winter hike in Delaware when you explore Killens Pond State Park in Kent County.
Killens Pond State Park is located in the heart of Kent County, and it’s one of the most popular destinations for year-round hiking in Delaware.
If you’re looking for a great winter hike in Delaware, head to this scenic park, where you’ll find miles of trails and panoramic views of one of the largest ponds in the state.
The narrow and winding pondside trail is open for pedestrians only, and takes you right up to the water’s edge. This trail is 2.7 miles, and is a favorite of birdwatchers and wildlife spotters.
If you want to enjoy a brisk bike ride around Killens Pond, you’ll have to take the 2.3 mile bike trail that follows the perimeter of the park road, while still showing off beautiful, unobscured views.
When there's a fresh blanket of snow on the pond, it's quite a sight! This is one of the top destinations for photographers after a winter storm coats the region.
