Right on Marsh Rd you’ll find a small shopping center that’s holding a big surprise. One of the best gourmet restaurants in Delaware is actually in a strip mall! If you don’t believe me, you’ve got to get down to Goat Restaurant and Bar and try out this amazing Wilmington hole in the wall.
Goat Restaurant and Bar is the latest creation from Chef David Weir.
His previous restaurants include Four Dogs Tavern, the Chadds Ford Inn and the Marshalton Inn in Pennsylvania, plus Delaware's own Oyster Bar, and Buckley's Tavern! Like his other ventures, Goat Kitchen and Bar focuses on great food, friendly service, fair prices, and strong drinks.
Goat might be the best restaurant you've never heard of.
This Wilmington hole in the wall can brag about strong ratings (4/5 stars and 4.7/5 stars on Yelp and Facebook with over 200 reviews) and plenty of repeat customers, and you'll soon learn why. The restaurant itself is comfortable and modern, with a beautiful bar and charming artwork on the walls.
The food that they serve is absolutely mouthwatering.
On a chilly day, start off with their famous "sell your soul" curried chicken noodle soup. It's an updated take on a classic, and boy did they get it right.
If you'd rather skip the soup, you can start your meal with any of their other delicious appetizers.
The Brussels sprouts buffalo 'wings' are a favorite, as is the homemade pickle sampler. Try a flatbread and share it with your table - everyone will be happy with the flavor and variety that the appetizer menu offers.
Their entrees are where they really shine.
Lots of delicious, fresh clams with a hearty serving of spaghetti make this dish a favorite of many, and I have to say, it's some of the best clams and spaghetti I've had! Their menu features a variety of regular entrees as well as daily specials.
There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu, but there's also a few great choices if you're a meat-and-potatoes type.
Each dinner I've had here has blown me away with taste and presentation. You'll completely forget you're dining in a strip mall when you dig into their braised short rib.
Don't forget dessert!
This Wilmington hole in the wall is not just a place to grab dinner, oh no. They serve up delicious homemade pies and cakes every day. Their buttermilk cake dessert is one of my favorites - a light, fluffy cake served with berries and caramel, a la mode.
No matter what you're in the mood for, you'll find something you love at Goat.
